Periowave Technology in SE Calgary

Progressive Dental in South East (SE) Calgary provides Periowave, which is a light technology that kills bacteria related to gum disease.

What is Periowave Technology?

Periowave is a non-thermal light technology that is a non-invasive way to support treatment outcomes when combined with your regular hygiene visits.

At Progressive Dental we use the laser light of the Periowave – combined with a photo-sensitizing solution – to kill the bacteria associated with periodontal disease, otherwise known as gum disease.

Periodontal disease occurs when a bacterial infection develops where the gums and teeth join. Bacteria release enzymes that can cause bone loss, receding gums and eventually tooth loss. Red, swollen, bleeding gums, persistent bad breath or tooth sensitivity are signs of periodontal disease.

In a healthy mouth, 1 to 3 mm (shallow) pocket depths exist where the teeth and gums meet. Pockets that measure 4 mm and greater indicate gum disease may be present.

Your dentist or dental hygienist will evaluate the health of your gums by recording measurements from probe readings.

With the Periowave, we are now able to broaden our scope of non-surgical services.

Periowave may be used in conjunction with scaling and root planning to provide care to prevent periodontal disease.
